There is only a two month window of opportunity to sow seeds for growing tomatoes outdoors in the UK – that’s March and April – so let’s get started!

The airing cupboard is a good place to germinate seeds or a heated propagator. Just make sure that as soon as they start to come through, usually 5 to 7 days, remove the cling film or lid and put them in a light place to stop them from becoming “leggy” too tall.

 

The temperatures given in the video are the “ideal” temperatures. Realistically, anywhere in the region of 21C for germination and between 15 to 18C for the seedlings is fine. Of course temperatures will be lower during the night.
