Garden Shop

Welcome to the Tomato Growing Garden Shop where you’ll find plenty of ideas if you are looking for a gift for a tomato grower or just looking to buy items for next season.

A tomato growing book and a starter kit is a great gift idea for those who plan to grow toms or other veg for the first time. An electric propagator and grow light is a real treat for the more experienced gardener!

Greenhouses
If there is one thing a tomato grower could use it’s a longer season.
It often happens that just as the toms are beginning to ripen, the autumn weather sets in and the summer is at an end.

A greenhouse not only extends the season, it also keeps the rain off your plants, keeps the temperatures slightly higher and enables the gardener to sow tomato seeds earlier – giving an earlier crop!

Seeds
One of the pleasures of the Winter to early Spring period is choosing which tomato varieties to sow. However, with thousands of varieties available, a suggestion is to grow one or two of as many different types as you have room for.

For example:
* A Bush Cherry = Tumbling Tom (in hanging basket)
* A Tall (Cordon) Cherry = Sungold (grow bag)
* A Tall Medium = Moneymaker (grow bag)
* A Tall Large = Marmande (grow bag)

Of course this is only a suggestion, but with thousands of varieties from which to choose, it is good to have a broad selection.

Propagators
Tomato seeds can be sown in a small pot covered with cling film, to stop the compost from drying-out. However, if you intend to sow more than a few seeds, a propagator is a good investment and will produce the best results.
Please note that if you sow tomato seeds after the beginning of May in the UK, there won’t be enough time for the plants to produce fruit before the cold weather arrives.
It is best to buy tomato plants and get a head start!
